A sealed unit isn't a single piece of glass, and a few things about it can confuse people. None are dealbreakers. Knowing them up front helps you order the right unit the first time.
A sealed unit can't be cut down after it's built. Two panes are bonded to a spacer and sealed around the edge as a single unit. Cut into that, and the seal breaks and the unit's ruined. So your width, height, and overall thickness all have to be right before it's made. It's a non-returnable, made-to-order item, so measure twice.
The fog is a failed seal, and only a new unit can fix it. That cloudy haze between the panes is moisture that got past a broken edge seal. You can't clean it out, because it's on the inside surfaces you can't reach. Replacing the sealed unit is the fix, and the frame and sash you have can usually stay put.
You're ordering the whole unit, not a single pane. The spec that trips people up is overall unit thickness: Measurement should include pane plus air gap plus pane, usually somewhere from 1/2" to 1". This is a different number from the single pane thickness on our other glass products. Measure the thickness of the old unit's edge, or the depth of the sash pocket it sits in.
All Insulated Glass Units Are Tempered Glass. While tempered glass is not necessarily required in all cases, many building codes require windows to be tempered glass, and that is generally the best option. However, if you have a specific need that requires annealed glass, send us a message or put it in the notes field at the end of the customization options.
The online builder takes you through it one step at a time. A sealed unit has different options than a single piece of glass, so don't expect edge or corner choices here. The edges are sealed inside the unit and hidden by your window frame.

Custom glass is cut to the numbers you provide, so it can't be returned for a sizing mistake. Measure the opening, not the frame, and check the width and height in a few spots in case it isn't square. Allow a small gap where the glass sits in the channel (at least 1/16"), and write it as width x height in inches and fractions.
A sealed unit has a third measurement: overall thickness. Hold a tape or caliper to the edge of the old unit and measure pane to pane, including the air gap in between. Round to the nearest 1/16". If the old unit is already out and broken, measure the depth of the sash pocket that the glass sat in. Write the spec as width x height x thickness.

A sealed window unit is two panes of glass separated by a spacer bar and sealed around the edge, with an air gap in between them for insulation. You'll also see it called an insulated glass unit, or IGU, or a double-pane unit. It's the glass that goes inside a double-pane window.

If your product arrives damaged, contact us within 48 hours of arrival using the Damaged Claim form, and be prepared to provide photos of the damaged product and damaged shipping materials. If we approve your claim, you will be eligible for a refund or replacement product.
