Your patio table glass shattered in a storm. Or your new wood dining table already has its first water ring, and you want glass over it before the second one shows up. Either way, you need a glass table top in a size the furniture store doesn't carry.
Enter your measurements, pick your thickness, edges, and corners, and you'll see your price on the spot. We cut your glass to those numbers, temper it for strength, pack it for freight, and ship it to your door. You won't have to wrestle a 40-inch sheet of glass into your back seat.
| Glass type | Clear tempered safety glass |
| Thickness | 1/4" to 1/2" [CONFIRM: the tempered builder offers 1/8" to 1/2". Recommend hiding 1/8" on this product. It's too thin for a table top.] |
| Size | Up to 48" x 48", as small as 4" x 4" |
| Shapes | Square and rectangle |
| Edges | Flat polish, pencil polish, beveled [CONFIRM: recommend hiding "seamed" here. A seamed edge is safe to handle but looks unfinished on an exposed table edge.] |
| Corners | Square, clipped, or rounded |
| Other shapes & holes | Round, oval, and custom shapes, plus umbrella and hardware holes, aren't in the online builder. Contact us to order them directly. |
A table top takes more abuse than almost any other glass in your house. Hot plates. Dropped mugs. A kid climbing up to reach the fruit bowl.
Tempering is a heat treatment that makes glass about 4 times stronger than regular glass of the same thickness. And if it does break, it crumbles into small, dull pieces instead of long, jagged shards. That's the glass you want under your dinner plate and next to your kids.
Tempered glass also handles temperature swings better than regular glass, so a warm plate or a sunny patio won't bother it. Still use a trivet for a pan straight from the oven.
Use this as a starting point. If you're replacing broken glass, match the thickness of the old piece. Your table frame was built for it.
| How you'll use it | Thickness to start with |
| Protector over a wood table, desk, or dresser | 1/4" |
| Coffee table, end table, or nightstand with support under most of the glass | 1/4" to 3/8" |
| Patio table that holds the glass in a frame | Match the old glass (often 1/4" or less) |
| Dining or kitchen table sitting on a full frame | 3/8" to 1/2" |
| Glass resting on a pedestal or a base with open space underneath | 1/2" |
[CONFIRM: Flash Glass should sign off on these thickness ranges before publishing.]
Still not sure? Send us a photo of the base through our contact page and we'll tell you what we'd use.
Put small clear bumpers between the glass and the wood. They keep the glass from sliding, and they let air move underneath so moisture doesn't get trapped against the finish. [CONFIRM: are bumpers sold or included? If not, say "grab a pack of clear glass table top bumpers at any hardware store."]
If your table has a fresh finish, give it time to cure before you set glass on it. Your finish maker lists that time on the can.
Tempered glass can't be cut, drilled, or edged after it's tempered. Try it and the whole piece shatters. So your size, edges, corners, and any holes all get set before the glass goes into the furnace.
Measure twice. If your table needs a hole, or a shape other than a square or rectangle, contact us to order it directly. There's no adding a hole later.
Our online builder walks you through each step:
Custom glass is cut to your numbers, so it can't be returned for a sizing mistake. Here's how to get them right the first time.
Replacing glass that sits inside a frame (most patio tables): Measure the opening where the glass rests, not the outside of the frame. Check the width and length in a few spots, since frames aren't always square. Take off at least 1/16" so the glass drops in without binding.
Glass on top of a table (protectors and covers): Measure the table surface. Some people match the table exactly. Others go a little smaller so the glass edge doesn't catch hips and chair arms. Both work. Just decide before you type your numbers in.
Round tops: Measure straight across the widest point, through the center. Do it twice, at right angles, and use the smaller number. Round tops are ordered directly, so send that number through our contact page.
Umbrella holes: Measure the width of your umbrella pole and where the hole sits (usually dead center), then send both to us through our contact page.
Odd shapes: Trace the table onto kraft paper, snap a photo with a tape measure in the frame, and send it through our contact page.
Write everything as width x length in inches and fractions.
Each order ships in a protective crating built for freight, with edge and surface protection, and it's insured, with tracking. Inspect it before you sign. If anything arrives damaged, you must contact us within 48 hours of delivery, with photos of the glass and the packaging, to discuss a replacement.

Restaurants, cafes, offices, hotels, furniture makers, and designers: save your specs and reorder the same table top without rebuilding it. Quote your job against one clear price. And reach a real person when you need 30 tops cut to the same size or an odd shape for one conference room.
It depends on the size, thickness, edges, corners, holes, and shipping. Enter your specs in the builder and you'll see your exact total before you pay.
For a protector over a solid table, 1/4" is the usual pick. Coffee and end tables with good support run 1/4" to 3/8". Dining tables and glass sitting on a pedestal need 3/8" to 1/2". Replacing broken glass? Match the old thickness.
Yes, for almost every table. Tempered glass is about 4 times stronger than regular glass, and it breaks into small, dull pieces instead of jagged shards. That's why we only make table tops in tempered glass.
For most homes, yes. Glass wipes clean, it protects wood underneath, and tempered glass holds up to daily meals. The trade-offs: it shows fingerprints, and plates clink on it. Placemats fix both.
Yes. The online builder handles squares and rectangles. For round, oval, or custom shapes, contact us to order directly.
Some hardware stores still cut thin, regular glass. They can't temper it, though, and tempering has to happen after the glass is cut. For a tempered glass table top in a custom size, you need a glass fabricator like us.
No. Once glass is tempered, any cut or drill hole shatters it. Need a hole? Contact us to order it, and we'll cut it before tempering.
Yes. Umbrella holes aren't part of the online builder, so contact us to order your top directly. We'll cut the hole before tempering.
Squares and rectangles from 4" x 4" up to 48" x 48" in the builder. Need something bigger or a different shape? Contact us.
