    Custom Tempered Glass

You already know your measurements and the thickness you need, but your local glass shop doesn't do one-off small pieces. Either their minimums are more than the actual glass costs, or they are a week or more out. That's where Flash Glass comes in. You can order online and get it shipped fast and safely to your door.  All you need to do is enter your measurements, pick your edge finish, corner customizations, and any holes that need to be cut, and you'll see your pricing on the spot. Then we'll cut it, temper it, pack it using the best glass-packing techniques in 100% recyclable materials, and send it right to your doorstep. So you don't even need to take a trip or put it awkwardly in your back seat.  Custom Tempered Glass Specifications Glass Type Tempered Safety Glass Thickness 1/8" to 1/2" Size Up to 48" x 48", as small as 4" x 4" Shapes Rectangle/square standard; circles, ovals, custom (for supported thicknesses) Edges Seamed, flat polish, pencil polish, beveled Corners Square or rounded Holes/Cutouts To spec, always before tempering   Why People Choose Tempered Glass Tempering is a heat treatment, and it changes two things: It makes the glass up to four times stronger than standard glass of the same thickness, so it holds up as a tabletop, loaded shelf, or bumped panel. It also changes how the glass breaks. Instead of long, jagged shards, it crumbles into small, blunt pieces. That's why most building codes require it in doors, shower and tub enclosures, and glass near the floor. If your project is one of those, tempered glass likely isn't optional.  Tempered glass also handles sun and everyday heat better than standard glass, but it is NOT fireplace or woodstove glass. For those, you need ceramic glass rated for higher heat.  What People Use Tempered Glass For Shelves that can carry weight without sagging or chipping Tabletops and desk tops, round, square, or custom shapes Shower and bath panels (required by code) cut to your opening with holes for your hardware needs.  Tabletop and counter protectors that take the scratches so the surface underneath doesn't. Windows and door lites, for a safer replacement in high-traffic and ground-level spots.  Cabinet and furniture inserts at exact sizes, in batches as needed.  Read This Before You Order Tempered glass can't be cut, drilled, or edged after it's tempered. Trying to do any of that will cause it to shatter. Tempering puts the surface under tension, and any later cuts will release that tension all at once. So your size, edges, corners, and holes have to be set before it goes through the furnace. Measure twice, and get your holes right in the order, because there's no trimming it later. Unsure about the cutout? Let us know on our contact page. Build It Exactly How You Need It. Our online builder takes you through every step of the process: Thickness: 1/8" to 1/2" thicknesses are available. Get a thicker piece for table tops and loaded shelves, and get a thinner piece for things like inserts. Dimensions: Enter your dimensions, down to the fraction of an inch. This is what we use to make our cuts, so measure twice! Shape: Square or rectangle standard with circles, ovals, and custom shapes (for certain thicknesses) Edges: Seamed, flat polished, pencil polished, or beveled Corners: Square, clipped, or rounded  Holes & cutouts: For hinges and hardware, all set before tempering. How to Measure (so you only have to order once) Custom glass is cut to the numbers you provide, so it can't be returned for a sizing mistake. Measure the opening, not the frame, and check the width and height in a few spots in case it isn't square. Allow a small gap where the glass sits in the channel (at least 1/16"), and write it as width x height in inches and fractions.  Getting It to You in One Piece Each order ships in a protective crating built for freight, with edge and surface protection, and it's insured, with tracking. Inspect it before you sign, and if anything arrives broken, our breakage replacement policy covers it: Report it with a photo within 48 hours of delivery, and we'll make it right, with your replacement glass arriving within 5 business days.  Order For Your Business Designers, contractors, cabinet makers, property managers: reorder the same specs without rebuilding them, quote jobs against one transparent (pun absolutely intended) price, and reach a real person for the odd cutout or batch run.  Frequently Asked Questions Can tempered glass be cut after it's tempered? No. Once it's tempered, it can't be cut, drilled, or reshaped in any way without shattering it, so every detail is set before tempering. Measure carefully and mark all holes in the order.  Is tempered glass stronger and safer than regular glass? Yes to both. It's about four times stronger than standard glass of the same thickness, and it breaks into small, blunt pieces instead of sharp, jagged shards, which is why most building codes require it in doors, showers, and glass near the floor.  How much does custom tempered glass cost? It depends on thickness, size, edges, corners, holes, and shipping. The customizer will show you your exact total before you pay.  What thicknesses and sizes can I order? 1/8" to 1/2", and up to 48"x48", and as small as 4"x4" Can I get custom shapes and holes? Yes, for most glass thicknesses, as long as holes are set before tempering. Send a drawing for complex shapes.  Can I use tempered glass for a fireplace or woodstove? No. Fireplace and woodstove glass needs ceramic glass, which is made specifically for high-heat situations. Regular tempered glass isn't rated for that kind of heat. Custom Insulated Glass Units for Windows and More

Your exact size, thickness, and glass type. One sealed unit, priced before you pay. Your window looks permanently foggy, and no amount of cleaning is even coming close to touching it, because the haze is between the two panes where you can't reach. Or one of the panes in a double-pane window cracked, and the local shop wants to sell you a whole new window when all you need is the glass. The seal failed, the unit's done, and you need a replacement sealed unit in the exact size to drop back into the frame you already have. That's our job here. You enter the size and overall thickness, pick your glass type and options, and get a price on the spot. Then it's built, sealed, packed to survive freight, and shipped to your door. No new window, no contractor, no two-week wait at the local shop. What People Order Sealed Units For Foggy or failed double-pane windows. When the seal fails, moisture gets trapped between the panes, and the glass hazes over for good. A new sealed unit drops into the same sash and clears it up. A cracked pane in a double-pane window. You don't need a new window. You need the insulated unit replaced at the same size. Upgrading single pane to a double pane. Swap old single glazing for a sealed unit in the existing frame and cut the drafts, the noise, and the heating bill. Additions, sunrooms, garages, and outbuildings. Replacement or new glazing sized to an opening a stock window won't fit. Commercial and storefront glazing. Replacement dual-pane units for retail, office, and light commercial openings. Odd and non-standard openings. Sizes and shapes that the big window brands don't make off the shelf. Replacing a unit and not sure of the size? Measure the old one before you pull it, or measure the opening. Read This Before You Order A sealed unit isn't a single piece of glass, and a few things about it can confuse people. None are dealbreakers. Knowing them up front helps you order the right unit the first time. A sealed unit can't be cut down after it's built. Two panes are bonded to a spacer and sealed around the edge as a single unit. Cut into that, and the seal breaks and the unit's ruined. So your width, height, and overall thickness all have to be right before it's made. It's a non-returnable, made-to-order item, so measure twice. The fog is a failed seal, and only a new unit can fix it. That cloudy haze between the panes is moisture that got past a broken edge seal. You can't clean it out, because it's on the inside surfaces you can't reach. Replacing the sealed unit is the fix, and the frame and sash you have can usually stay put. You're ordering the whole unit, not a single pane. The spec that trips people up is overall unit thickness: Measurement should include pane plus air gap plus pane, usually somewhere from 1/2" to 1". This is a different number from the single pane thickness on our other glass products. Measure the thickness of the old unit's edge, or the depth of the sash pocket it sits in.  All Insulated Glass Units Are Tempered Glass. While tempered glass is not necessarily required in all cases, many building codes require windows to be tempered glass, and that is generally the best option. However, if you have a specific need that requires annealed glass, send us a message or put it in the notes field at the end of the customization options.  Build It Exactly How You Need It. The online builder takes you through it one step at a time. A sealed unit has different options than a single piece of glass, so don't expect edge or corner choices here. The edges are sealed inside the unit and hidden by your window frame. Overall unit thickness. Pick the edge thickness of the whole unit, usually between 1/2" and 1". Match it to the old unit or your sash depth so it seats correctly. Dimensions. Enter width and height down to the fraction (preferably within 1/16"). This is the number we use to build your window, so this is the one to double-check. Shape. Rectangle or square as standard, with other shapes available upon request. Glass type. Tempered panes. Many building codes require windows to be tempered, so we make our insulated glass units tempered by default. Grid (optional). The decorative bars between the panes that give a window its divided look. If you want a grid Spacer color. The metal bar around the edge of the unit, visible on the inside of the frame.  Building something we didn't list? If you can measure it, we can usually price it. Send us a message with details of your build and your measurements, and we'll get you a custom quote! A sealed unit has a third measurement: overall thickness. Hold a tape or caliper to the edge of the old unit and measure pane to pane, including the air gap in between. Round to the nearest 1/16". If the old unit is already out and broken, measure the depth of the sash pocket that the glass sat in. Write the spec as width x height x thickness. Getting It to You in One Piece Each order ships in a protective crating built for freight, with edge and surface protection, and it's insured, with tracking. A sealed window unit is two panes of glass separated by a spacer bar and sealed around the edge, with an air gap in between them for insulation. You'll also see it called an insulated glass unit, or IGU, or a double-pane unit. It's the glass that goes inside a double-pane window. Why is my double-pane window foggy, and will a new unit fix it? The fog is moisture trapped between the panes after the edge seal failed. It's on the inside surfaces, so cleaning never works. A new sealed unit replaces the failed one and clears it up, and you keep your existing frame. Can I replace just the glass instead of the whole window? Usually, yes. If the frame and sash are sound, you can replace the sealed unit inside them and not worry about the whole window. Measure the old unit's width, height, and overall thickness, and build the replacement in the customizer to match. Can a sealed unit be cut to size after it's made? No. The two panes are sealed to a spacer as one piece. Cutting it breaks the seal and ruins the unit. Every dimension, including overall thickness, has to be set before it's built. It's a made-to-order, non-returnable item, so measure carefully. How do I measure for a replacement sealed unit? Measure the glass width and height in a few spots in case the opening isn't square, then measure the overall thickness at the edge, pane to pane, including the air gap. Write it as width x height x thickness. What overall thickness do I need? Match the unit you're replacing, or the depth of the sash it sits in. Sealed units commonly run from 1/2" to 1" overall. How much does a sealed unit cost? It depends on size, overall thickness, glass type, and the options you choose, plus shipping. The builder shows your exact total before you pay. Ready to Build Your Sealed Unit? Enter your size, pick your options, and get your number instantly. It'll be cut to spec, sealed, and packed to arrive whole. No new window required.
